Next Up: Surgery, most likely PERCS

I am pretty sure E needs tendon lengthening. She has a very hard time standing fully upright; I think she could do so more easily if she had her contractures surgically lengthened.

I've been thinking about this for a long while, and I think PERCS (Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening) is the way to go. Our orthopaedic agrees, which sort of surprised me...I thought he'd want to go the traditional lengthening route. Now I need to find the time and doctor. I am pursuing Roy Nuzzo in NJ.

I look forward to following your progress with this! I think Shay will need something similar. We just got hip x rays back today that look good - still has major turning in of foot - so must be muscle...i agree with you - percs sounds so much less invasive than traditional lengthening...look forward to following the journey...

Melissa,

I'm from Europe, have spastic diplegia and had heel cord lengthening when I was 5 y/o.

Five years ago I got in touch with Dr. Nuzzo and he replied that I would benefit from PERCS (both hamstrings and gastrocs). At the time I didn't go with the surgery but now I'm reconsidering it.

I have been searching high and low to find any adult who had this procedure done but with no success so far...

Amy, I'll cross all crossables that this surgery works out for Elena!!!

Please keep us updated.

My son is 5 and he is a toe walker and now his feet are starting to deform. He is going to have this procedure done on Sept. 24th by Dr. Yngve. We saw him at UTMB in Galveston Texas. The Dr. said they have had a lot of success with PERCS.
